Sulaimaan's
Islamic Kindergarten Plan
As Salaamu alaikum !!
It
seems that our school day is destined to be segregated into half-hour units.
Sulaimaan loves working. Mashallah he has lots of competition and
has a real boy complex and is striving hard! We cover much ground
by utilising a 'brisk' pace, mental strategies and understanding come before
paper and pencil strategies.
Qur'an
- 5:00
I know I know,
but my husband is a early bird and feels the kids must start early.
Sulaimaan is working on Surah Balad right after fajr and then
online HERE (recited
by Imam Sudays) while my sisters are cleaning. 20 minutes only. Then
at 5:20 I clean my room
while Ummy works on computer (we share a the same room the computer and
I). As I am dressing Ummy recites Suratul Balad so that he can hear
it. He doesn't have to look at me or pay attention he only has to
be in same room and hear me say it at least 3 times.
P.E.
- 6:00
Sulaimaan goes
running with his father and is learning strengthening exercises. At 7:00
he is showering and eating breakfast Inshallah.
Math -
8:00
The first 5 minutes
are a chance to develop oral and mental skills and strategies. For
this we use: Addition
Flashcards!
The next 15
minutes consist Math Activity: Found at the ArabesQ
Academy.
The last 5
minutes are a time to review what has been practised or rules that have
been generalised. I either have him show me via manipulatives or
Mathwork
Math worksheets that he understands the lesson.
For
Arabic - 8:30
I
use this CD rom at home and he does this while I am working on Math with
his sisters. Sulaimaan is learning arabic vowels as he has already
learned the letters via flash cards.
9:00he
begins writing the letters that I have dotted and putting the vowel sounds
over them and telling me the sound when he is done. Then I give him
3 words that match those 3 basic sounds Fatha, damma, kasra.
Break time!!9:15
English
- 9:30
We use How
to Teach Your Child
to Read in 100EZ Lessons - we just sit on the couch and snuggle
up and bam do our lesson for 20 minutes. Since it also has handwriting
and comprehension built in we have killed at least birds with one stone!
Language
Arts specifically for the kindergartener! I have fun when
ummy takes this from the internet!!
Read
Out Loud - 10:15
This is the time
Ummy reads to all of us together!! What will I read? I do like
the Eeman Series
reading books. I read them regularly. Ask my mom about them.
Reading:
This tale from Grimm "OUCH"
-- far less familiar than many of the others -- has been given a brisk
retelling by Natalie Babbitt and witty, spectacular pictures by Fred Marcellino.
Open
- 11:00
This is the time
he chooses to work on computer or build with is legos or play with his
Arabic puzzles. Leaving this open for him to choose something he
wants to do. Even he enjoys cooking or making lunch with someone
else in house at this time. Whatever his time is he must learn something
new doing it. Bithnillah.
Lunch
- 12:00
We eat, pray,
and then he practices Ayatul Kurasi and a Hadith with his sisters.
After that we all straighten up all our books from the morning etc.
Afternoon
studies - 1:00
In the afternoon
we feel that it is the most creative time of the day. Whenever we
can the kids get outside to enjoy and explore Allah's creation subhanallah!
Sulaimaan has a Nature notebook and I often send him out to explore the
back yard even if it is cold. He must draw what he sees. Or
write words about how he feels. Or he can even come back in and have
me help him dictate what he has drawn. Either way the fresh air is
doing wonders for his self esteem and he sees, feels, hears, touches .......
basically he is experiencing Allah's swt RAHMAH! Many times this
is the time we pack everyone up and go outside together or take field trip
locally or even walk the neighborhood. This has taught him to respect
and revere Allah subhanah wa ta'alah. At the same time it clears
our brains for the life we must lead in Worship and much contemplation.
In the evenings
my husband has been working with them on:
Egypt
and Islamic studies - Not only do I get to see the Prince of Egypt
I can also study it from an Islamic point of view with my family.
There is a lesson plan for muslims on that site!
